Darwin Nunez, a forward for the Reds, is keen to return to action this weekend in time to play in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park against Everton.
The Uruguayan’s three-game suspension for getting sent off in his Anfield debut against Crystal Palace last month for a headbutt on Palace defender Joachim Andersen has ended.
It appears like Darwin Nunez is set to return for Jurgen Klopp’s side against their local rivals after missing the 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford and the 2-0 and 3-0 home wins over Bournemouth and Newcastle, respectively.
On Friday, Nunez posted a picture of himself working out alongside the simple caption, “time to go back” on Twitter.
Klopp will have been keeping an eye on the forward at the club’s Kirkby base over the past two weeks, hoping to see a repeat of the impact he saw in the forward’s first two competitive appearances for the club, in which he scored off the bench against Manchester City in the Community Shield and Fulham in the Premier League.
Given Roberto Firmino‘s recent success, Klopp may opt to keep Nunez on the bench on Saturday rather than start him.
The Brazilian scored twice in last weekend’s 9-0 demolition of Bournemouth, and he scored the Reds’ first goal when they rallied from a goal down to overcome Newcastle in the midweek match.
Several Liverpool players, including Nunez, who was unavailable for the game rejoiced enthusiastically after Fabio Carvalho scored a last-second winner against the Magpies.
Klopp is likely to have his new loan player, Arthur Melo, available, and the young Portuguese forward is also pressing for a starting spot after scoring in each of his last two games off the bench.
Against Newcastle, captain Jordan Henderson went out with a hamstring injury, adding him to the club’s list of injured midfielders. However, Curtis Jones, who was an unused replacement, might make his first Premier League appearance of the season.
Henderson might be replaced by James Milner, but Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all doubtful to play.
The loan deal between Juventus and Arthur’s new club was finalised on Thursday, and he says he’s ready to contribute immediately.
For the 26-year-old, “it’s a dream to be here wearing this magnificent shirt with this iconic badge that signifies so much in world football.”
I’m confident we made the right decision after extensive discussions with Klopp, who shares my goals and ideals. I’m so grateful and inspired to be able to play for Liverpool and realise my lifelong dream.
