Alison Hammond has received criticism from PETA, a group that advocates for the rights of animals.
The This Morning host, 47, was criticised after posting an Instagram video of her camel ride in Dubai, with PETA claiming the activity caused “tremendous pain” to the animals.
Alison can be heard saying in the video, “So we’re here in the desert, I’ve put my scarf on. Does my scarf seem funny to you? We’re prepared to face the desert head-on.
‘We can only presume that Alison is uninformed that riding camels causes these creatures terrible misery,’ Mimi Bekhechi, Vice President, Europe and Australia, told Mail Online.
Camel’s life in the tourist industry is quite different from their native habitat. Sometimes visitors are forced to ride on the backs of elephants, and the animals are beaten, crammed into trailers, and driven long distances. Camels typically labour in the blazing sun without any relief from the heat or access to water. The Egyptian government has prohibited camel rides near the Giza pyramids because they are considered inhumane. The camel is not a tool for taking selfies or making content.
The TV personality was stunning in a black, low-cut bikini as she relaxed on a lounger there. She tagged the photo, taken when she was wearing a black hat and tortoiseshell eyeglasses, with the phrase, “Dubai vibes.”
Alison Hammond, along with Ant and Dec, Graham Norton, and Bradley Walsh, was confirmed as a nominee for best TV presenter at this year’s National Television Awards earlier this week.
This Morning’s Alison is also said to be the frontrunner to host Big Brother, which will return to television next year and is scheduled to premiere on ITV2.
Given that it was on this programme that she first gained widespread recognition in 2002, she would be an ideal host if she gets the job.
As time has passed, Alison has gone on to become a TV celebrity in her own right and is widely considered to be one of the most famous former Big Brother housemates of all time.
The third season of Big Brother included Kate Lawler and Jade Goody, who was just 27 years old when she died of cancer in 2009. Despite only being in the house for 15 days, she was voted out.
